Subject: question on secure linux

I am thinking of putting a Linux distro on one of my older computers. I just want an OS that would slow down and allow me to be more secure in doing banking, purchasing stuff, etc. I want secure but not internet anonymity or having to go through Tor. I think that is way more than I want or need.

I am thinking of using a Live version of Linux Mint on a flash drive that I plug into my Dell laptop. I don't want to go entirely to Linux at this time. I have a perfectly good Dell laptop that started with W10 and so far as not had ANY problems with the W10 updates. (knock on wood so far).

I want to keep the W10 but use the flash drive when I start to do banking or other financial transactions.

Another reason to do this is that I think this would be easier on my wife when she wants to look at her private accounts, too. I know that she would want to go 100% to Linux or even 50%.

Does this look like a viable option that will achieve what I want to do.

From what I have read it seems that the Linux on a stick will not be infected by a windows virus, etc.
