Subject: JD 15 ft. mower specs + a PTO question.

Several questions on the larger JD mowers older and newer models.

JD 1508 any shortcomings or weaknesses ? Looks similar to a 709 model with wings added. Any known weaknesses or issues with main gearboxes, lift mechanism, wheel mountings, hinges etc?

Newer models what are the differences in duty rating of the 1517 and 1518 models ?

What are the differences between HX15,CX15, MX15 lines ?

Realistically speaking how much HP to run any of these effectively ? 110 Hp enough ?

Mostly wheat stubble a few smaller former CRP fields that are very thick and sort of rough. I know the 3 point 709 will bring 60 hp to it's knees in the thick former CRP.

Double blade set ups plus or minus ?

The big question on the earlier 4020 powershift tractors if the PTO brake had excessive wear it could end up requiring the housing to be machined to correct the problem of a constant spinning PTO.

Discussed in this thread https://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=644422

The question is on a later 40 series powershift tractor (4040) is this still an issue especially when using a 15' mower that has the small 1000 shaft. Idling down before disengaging the PTO would be done but that is still a whole lot of momentum turning until 3 sections with stump jumpers and double blades coast to a stop.
