Subject: Angus Holstein Sale Barn Report

NW IA
Yesterday I sold 2 AxH cross heifers and 2 nice Holstein steers. 1435 and 1448 lbs. average per pair.

Edit. Birth dates, 2017; 9-06 and 8-09 Steins, 9-02 and 9-27 X's.

$111 for the blacks, 84.25 for the Holsteins.

If their weights had been equal at 1440 the per head gross would have differed by $385.20

If I had been given the Holstein at birth and paid $200 for the cross, I am left with a $185.20 margin.

Feed conversion difference between the two? I don't know.

The circumstances that produce these results are as fickle as the weather, just thought I'd share a bit of information.

A picture of the heifers if it works. Crosses are fed like Holsteins here. Whole shelled corn and pellets with a bit of oats to 5 or 6 hundred, then corn and pellets with a bale of bean stubble against the guard rail. (If I have it. Didn't bale any this fall; ran out of time and the stuff was like confetti coming out of my 1620 with no chopper, it was that dry)
