Subject: Surging Alternator.

Every three or four year the alternator on the semi starts surging constantly between 13 and 16 amps according to gauge. Lights get brighter and then dimmer. Engine diagnosis also says excess voltage. I have taken alternator to a respected rebuild shop in the past and he tells me bad diode.
I take it home and go back again in 3 years with same problem.

Find another shop? Buy a new one? Just repair it every 3 years?

Thanks
