. | Myself and several neighbors have been approached by some road construction contractors about selling fill for reconstruction of Interstate 94 adjacent to our properties. They are looking for red clay, sand, and shale. Price offered was $1 per yard. Their contract states they can build road to access the fill. So far I'm holding back as I'm a bit hesitant as to what this will do to the fields long term. The field with the shale is pretty rolling and I guess I wouldn't feel bad if some of that was leveled off. But how many years before crop production is back to normal, compaction issues, etc?
Also is the price fair/competitive and is the price for clay, sand and shale all the same?
I'd like to hear from anyone who has had experience with this in the past.
