Subject: Open Cows Need Help

SE KS
Took fall cows to the vet yesterday for annual vac and fly tags. Out of 33, had 5 not bred on two pastures. All my cattle are 3-7 depending on pasture angus cross, on fescue and supplement with corn gluten in the winter months. Have had similar problems with my spring calvers (58 head) not breeding, several weren't bred last summer. I blamed it on a young bull and 105 temps for most of the summer. Well, with fall calvers that shouldn't have been a problem. One bull was 3 years old and tested fine, other was almost two years old and a virgin. Have had trouble getting mineral through them and have switched to an ADM product that has bean meal in it. They have really began cleaning it up and look good over last 60 days. I would say BCS on most is a 6, some are too spoiled and an 8 or better. Could the mineral program been the problem? Thoughts would be appreciated. Hard to pay bills when cows are open. Thanks
