Subject: Compaction and root growth

Central Iowa
Compaction is a never ending problem but I would like some opinions on tillage. The problem usually occurs around the 8" level from equipment traffic. If an inline ripper puts a slot through that compaction zone is that channel sufficient too allow roots to get through the compaction zone or is it necessary to fracture the entire profile? An inline ripper will "wave" the whole profile but I'm not sure that is fracturing the entire profile between the shanks.
