Subject: freshening up strips in the spring?

Bourbon, Indiana
THis is our second year going into strip till with a 12row hiniker, we started this spring and had good results and just finished making our fall strips for beans going to corn next year. In some of our VERY heavy gumbo it left some pretty good slabs of dirt from compaction. Heres my question. Will running this same unit this coming spring with the row cleaners up and shank set at 4" (minimum it will go) be a bad idea? I"m wanting to break up the chunks of soil and possibly warm up the strip a little while I"m at it. I know most on here say not to run a shank style in the spring and I can see why but what about if it's only 4"? I can't imagine there would be any slabbing at that depth since it was already ripped 8 to10" in the previous fall.

GOod idea or not?
think it'll work?

Again I"m new to strip till so go easy on me.

thanks

Brad
