Subject: Clearing caragana shelterbelts - skidsteer?

NE ND
Picked up a piece of land that has been in CRP 20+ years. Several caragana shelterbelts that in places probably self seeded themselves to 50+ feet wide. What is the best was to clean them up? Have a D7 cat but it seems like a 4 lb sledge hammer working on a aluminum carburetor in these little things, not to mention all the dirt a cat stirs up.

Do these tree extractor attachments work like they show?

Thought about just buying or leasing a skidsteer for one year, clean up the rows and sell the rig or turn back at end of lease.

Anyone have lots of experience with clearing caraganas? I assume they are very shallow rooted, correct? What is the best method of attack? TIA
