Subject: spray boom question

Scribner, NE
I am trying to consider the pros and cons of this idea. What do you folks think? Last year I bought a home made sprayer from a friend. He built it on a very heavy frame and it has all the nice features of a factory sprayer except one major item. It has an old three point sixty foot boom with one way cylinders. There are all kinds of problems with this boom. However it is mounted on a three point quick tach. I have been watching for a used 60 foot spray boom but am not wanting to spend a lot of money. What would be the problems of using a 45 foot boom shortened up? I run an 8 30 planter. Would like to spend 1000 or less if possible? I have never used a flat fold, are there issues with them I don't know about?
