Subject: Asparagas question

Floyd County, Iowa
I have an asparagas patch that's about 6 feet by 16 feet. The problem is it's just north of my west facing garage door. Every time it snows and blows a little, it drifts about 3 feet deep across the drive. I want to take the bush hog and cut the ferns off about 4" above the ground, but the wife thinks it would hurt the asparagas without the winter cover. I usually get tired of the snow and use the loader bucket to push the snow back, tearing the ferns off anyway. I like to eat the stuff, so don't want to kill it or damage it.
Anybody mow theirs off for winter?
