I put out a bale of hay this morning for cows and noticed one had lost an ear tag in the one ring I have with Z-shaped bars. This makes several in the last few years that lose an eartag every time I use this particular bale ring. On the other hand I have several rings (Applegate 2-pc) with simple, straight slant (not Z shaped) bars that as far as I can recall have never caused one of my cows to lose an eartag. I don't know that the Z seems to visibly save any more hay than the straight. Cradles don't seem to cause tag problems either, just the Z. Did not lose the rfid button in the other ear, just the visual tag. Any one else see a difference in eartag retention with various style bale rings? Jim
