Subject: Might buy a plow, need some advice

Manitoba
I've never plowed in my life but we had some real residue problems this last spring on our corn on corn ground. Normally on a 2 year corn rotation we take the first year as silage, 2nd year as grain but some acres are moving to 2 years as grain as there we having issues. So were looking at buying a plow to try to fix the problem but I don't know how much HP a plow takes. Can you give me an idea how many HP per plow share. Thinking 8 or 10 (maybe even 12) but the bigger ones aren't that common to find used. Were heavy clay ground, completely flat land. Using older 4wd tractors. Seen some IH, Melroe, and JD ones for sale.

So looking for advice from those with experience. both for HP requirements and best plow to look for. Were conventional tillage so the tillage thing is not a concern in making the decision. might also use it for taking out alfalfa as well.
