Forget anything about the network.

It just won't get an  IP address from the router.

DHCP service is on.  In device manager the Ethernet adapter shows okay and says it's working.

2 other computers are hooked to the router and both get an IP address

I've unplugged the router and let it set then plugged it back in so it gives out an IP but that didn't work.  I've switched ports on the router too. 

The light is on, on the router indicating that the cable is plugged in. 

Doing ipconfig /release  gets me 0.0.0.0  and then ipconfig /renew gets me the default 169.254.etc
