Subject: Trees in the fenceline, taking them out

Farming in NW Iowa
I have a piece of ground I farm with a relative and was over the other day with a flatbed and a chain saw cutting down some of the annoying trees in the fenceline. I couldn't quite hold all the branches and pieces on the flatbed so I called the land owner on the other side of the fence that I was going to leave some pieces there to haul away so I didn't have to come back for them . He basically said if I cut them down I had better haul them away because he wasn't going to. He also said he cut them down last year. What he did was cut off the branches on his side so his planter marker wouldn't hook them and left the rest. I cut down (or pulled out) the whole tree! He also started going off how nobody should farm more than 3 miles from where they live! Anyway, I came back for the rest and got rid of them. Also had a lot of chemical drift from this guy damaging our crops, good thing it's only a 1/4 mile fenceline. What would you have done in this situation?
