Southwestern Texas Panhandle | I have an opportunity to buy a 2004 MX285 with 4,000 hours on it. It has less than 300 hours on a complete engine overhaul. It can be bought in the 70-75 range I believe. I know they were disappointed in it since they had to overhaul it with such few hours. It burned a whole in the air filter and sucked dirt into engine. I know the owners quite well and I believe the tractor was taken good care of and I have the ability to look at all of the service records on the tractor.
My thought is for that money you get a large tractor with reasonable hours versus what a like Deere would cost. I think you'd have to get a comparable Deere in the 7-8,000 hour range to get in that price range.
My other tractors are green and I have green star guidance. Would green star work on a MX?
It seems there is a love/hate relationship with the MX's, but it seems like that was the earlier models. Would you do this deal or go for an older/higher hour Deere?
