Subject: Brown, black kernals in corn sample

We had an abnormally high percent of damages grains (brown, black kernals) in a couple corn fields this year. The only difference between the fields with the rotten grains and the clean grains were that the rotten grain fields had corn following a year with wheat and double crop soybeans on them. Any ideas? I'm stumped
