Subject: Will a new beef processing plant help local price?

Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251
Our area of Missouri is getting a new beef processing plant. They hope to hire 1300 folks, and butcher 2400 head a day. It will be about 50 miles from me.

If the link works, here is a article about it:

I noticed they quoted a University extension person that said they are going to try and train local farmers to feed out their calves to fats. That is interesting..... I think if price went up, we'd figure it out pretty quickly.

Has anyone experienced a new plant like this opening up in their area?

Did it help prices at local sale barns?

Did more folks feed out their own stock to sell to the plant?

Did it help cull cow prices?

If it changed things for better or worse, how large of an area around the new plant saw a change?
