Subject: The potential was there...

NW IL
Was out looking at some corn yesterday and can definitely see how the dry weather early and late summer hurt us here in N IL.

The "smaller" ear is in fact 24 around about halfway up the ear, then gets down to 18 at the tip. But the kernels are not very deep. The "big ear" is from a low point that got water and is 20 around most of the way.

Most of out corn is 18-16 row, with one hybrid in a poor field at 14.

In general all of our corn lost 2 rows partway up the ear across all varieties.

Discontinued Ablert Lea/Viking 68-06P. Organic, planted June 4. I think the final stand count is around 30,000. Hoping to chop within the next 2 weeks.

Edit: not all the ears are this big. I just picked some of the nicer ones to see what could have been. We'll see how the field is appraised next week...

Edit x2 to add a picture of what most of our corn looks like. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, the dry weather really has hurt things.
