Callao, Missouri | I have been planting green into tall rye for years now. Tissue tests show the rye is taking up large amounts of potassium but very little phosphorus. Presumably this potassium is remaining plant available in the top few inches of soil.
So with fertilizer costs doubled this year I am debating on applying a normal rate of potash, a normal rate of phosphorus, or a half rate of both. I am thinking maybe I should be applying the phosphorus and depend on the rye to provide enough potassium.
Planning on beans next year. Tissue tests have shown a lot of potassium in growing rye in the past:

I have to run enough fertilizer carry the rye when I start interseeding in the next 7-14 days.
