Subject: What I’m hearing

NW Indiana
Haven’t received the normal crop reports I get yet but will say what I’m hearing from a few different discussions. IL and IN are going to disappoint. Test weight being low is a common theme with tar spot being the suspect. 53-56 TW is common which I hate that discussion but low test weight in a hot year is not normal. Wind damage in central IL worse than thought. June rain damage worse than thought. Dry finish in IN also having disappointing results. Combines rolling this early is also a sign. The crop turned brown in a hurry and that wasn't maturing but instead dying. Neither state will be a record and I probably could agree with coup IL will start with a 1 but maximum 205. IN will not top 192 but likely closer to 188. I added to putting my money where my mouth is buying dec $5 calls today.
There are surprises in the fields but this picture shows the extremes. Tazwell county IL took off the standing end rows to find this.
