Subject: Great Plains Twinrow Planter Drive Chains

East Central Arkansas

What a pain to take on and off of planter. This planter came with chain that had some sort of a silver coating on it. I think probably the first year and possibly the second year I ran it I didn't oil them. I have been using hydraulic oil with some diesel mixed in to thin so I can spray with pump up sprayer if I have the chains installed. Of course that causes dust to collect on the chains and makes a big mess. Chains really need to be removed for cleaning. I removed them today and pressure washed them. Have them hanging up drying. Just sort of wondering what others with this style planter do.  My JD single row 38" planter removing the chains for cleaning and storage is no big deal but this thing is a major task. I am thinking it's probably time to replace all the chains of this planter. Do any of you know where I can buy this coated chain other than from Great Plains Parts? The planter units use #41 chain and the rest of the planter drive is #40.
