Subject: A ton of fuel = how much Co2

SW Indiana
I follow some aviation stuff as a hobby, seems like I remember in school the science teacher explaining mass and matter that a pound always equals a pound, no matter if the water for example is in liquid, frozen, or gas - in other words if you have a pound of water and boil it until it's disappeared in the pan there is still the pound of water in the atmosphere.

So how can an airline change the way the paint is on an airplane and save 3700 tons of jet-a fuel across their fleet and that equal 11,700 tonnes (12,897 tons) of Co2? Where does the extra 'weight' come from?
