Glad both of you have lived to talk about the issue of safety when handling hay bales with a skid steer. After buying and using a conventional skid steer handling and feeding hay for a few years, ending up looking at the gravel real close, I decided to trade for a new JCB 300T with 3000 lb capacity, tracks and a side door like a friend uses. Especially now handling wet baleage bales, My tractor loader will barely pick them up and only then if I have a bale on the rear also. The rating standards on track loaders is more conservative than a wheeled skid steer. But get a bigger one than you think you will need. The monthly payments will be cheaper than the doctor bills.
Get something safe. Handling and feeding hay with a skid steer is very different from the bucket work they were originally intended for.
