Tip of the Thumb of Michigan

No till will generally lower plant height a small amount.  So does Cobra.  Cobra will shorten the internodes and can lower plant height about a foot here.  It also sparks an immune response that helps in fight off infection. I forget the technical term. We go with 6-8oz at first flower.  Then follow with a fungicide if needed.   You do not need splash for the spores to make it into the flowers.

No-till farming systems often result in shorter soybean plants, especially in the early growth stages, compared to conventional tillage systems. This initial height reduction is generally attributed to environmental factors in the no-till environment, but soybeans in no-till systems often exhibit compensatory growth and can reach similar mature heights and yields as conventional systems, particularly over the long term or under specific conditions.
Key factors influencing plant height differences in no-till soybeans include:

  • Cooler and Wetter Soils: The significant amount of surface residue in a no-till field leads to cooler and wetter soil conditions in the spring, which can delay seedling emergence and slow early plant growth. This early-season growth difference is the primary reason for initially shorter plants.
