Great question. There was a time in the 80's and 90's where a long stretch of mid 90's to 100 could easily do a number on pollination. It has been my experience that hybrids introduced in the last 20 years tolerate heat during pollination much better than older hybrids. That isn't to say that there are still not issues from time to time but it seems to be much less of a problem. If the plant is already stressed from being too dry going into the hot period of pollination the odds are much greater for pollination issues. A plant that has plenty of moisture and is shooting a lot of silk should be able to withstand some pretty hot temperatures during pollination. A drought stressed plant will struggle to produce and drop pollen too. Warm night time temps are another issue for corn plants during and after pollination. Again the stress factors leading up to this period will make a huge difference as well. A drought stressed plant will struggle more with high night time temps than a well watered one. I feel like an extended period of night time temps in the low to mid 70's is a bit of a yield robber even with well watered plants. It isn't a pollination issue but rather a development and fill issue.
