You are using two different set of rules to make your point.

“Back in the day” it wasn’t uncommon to go to a farm sale and get a cheap 100hp yard tractor. 4230, 966, ect, under $10k

Now if it’s priced there it’s junk. Some of this is just inflation but it’s also from what new costs trickling all the way down to the bottom end.

If I want to replace my combine that I bought when it was 5 years old with another machine that’s similar size, hours, wear and condition I’m looking at a $50-$75k more to do the same transaction today.

Could some auction deal happen? Sure, but waiting around for an auction deal is different than buying a combine at the end of harvest from a dealer because the old one laid an egg.
