Western Oregon | Never had them. We grow "english" peas and "pod" peas. The heat stops production of both. Early spring crop here, or late fall. You say yours are more like "beans" but shelled "fresh"?, Are they still soft? or more like an over "ripe" field pea used as livestock feed. Not very tasty at that stage. We call what we eat as fresh peas, not good overripe. I can't imagine a "mature" fresh bean seed, like edamame?
