Subject: RE: AF9 unload issue

Latimer Iowa
The first tank of Camelina sheared the small bolt for cross augers multiple times on our AF9.

Replaced with one of the factory supplied ones and sheared immediately again. Got to looking at bolt and it is has 5.6 stamped on it for hardness which is really soft. Went to the hardware store and picked up some 10.8 hardness bolts. Put one in and sheared a couple again right away.

With it being the first tank I was dumping directly on a truck and had the combine idled down. I remembered something I saw some where, about torque and speeds and the lower speed actually taking more torque then high speed. Put in another 10.8 bolt and fully throttled up before engaging the unload auger, like would normally be done dumping on the go. It worked just fine and emptied the tank. We then lowered the inserts over the augers down and dumped at full throttle the rest of the field with no issues with a 10.8 bolt in there.

What worked for us was to only run the unload system at full throttle, have a harder shear bolt in there, and to lower covers in the tank. Hopefully it works on oats here in a week or two.

Assuming your issue is the same as ours where it is the shear bolt for the cross augers and the main unload auger runs fine.... I doubt you have any flighting or auger timing issues as our was doing the same thing so that makes 3 acting the same way.
