All most all I plant is into cornstalks no till. Ours is 30’ and I followed a 12 row planter until we put an ez pilot on our 7240…..still follow the 12row planter but set an a b line and go. Technically it should plant between old corn rows, of course it doesn’t always but I don’t worry about it. Ours is an ‘05 I think …. don’t believe they made them much after that but not sure. I have used it 13-14 years now.
Maintenance is not difficult….. I just go through each part and check bearings and looseness at seasons end and do what’s needed….. just finished that and cleanup and put away a week ago. Bearings are common and can be purchased about anywhere. I can get Hiniker parts from my local NH dealer, but have been getting parts from Manchester Farm Center….which is like a small town Shoup. I keep a good supply of parts that need replacing more often.
Pulls as easy as anything per foot of width. The knock on them is a less than desirable closing wheel for no til. So stand is not as good as if tillage is done.
The only other no til soybeans close to me was planted with a J D air seeder and our stands are similar in my opinion. Other neighbors planting with planters and tillage that I visit with are not getting any more yield come harvest from what they say.
They haven’t been made for years so I would not pay a lot even for a good one. It works good for us on a tractor not needed for anything else….. am probably not even going to unhook it.
