That's - not how that works, like at all.

You've got companies worth hundreds of billions of dollars who have full time employees on food stamps. How does forcing them to pay a higher minimum wage "make the spread bigger".

Here's a hint, it doesn't.

Where are all these jobs with companies worth billions that only pay minimum wage?

Locally both McDonald’s and Walmart advertise starting pay that is more than 2x the Iowa/Federal minimum wage.    For people with no skills, just have to show up and work.

I have news for you. My daughter works at Walmart and goes college. If you think you can afford rent, food, health insurance. etc etc on 13 to 15 a hour? Well known Walmart and other corporations payed low wages and employees would get government benefits also. You dont get much health insurance for the money from Walmart. When there are families worth billions like Walton family should their employees be collecting government subsidies or Walmart pay more? Your tax dollars at work. Aside by me small town to my knowledge no one pays 7.25 hour mininum wage. Daughter in high school made 12.00 at local Diner. I dont think they get anyone to work for 7.25

It took a lot of unnecessary words for you to finally get around to answering the question.

So I'll ask you the same question, if those awful corporations are already paying double the minimum wage (that's what Po's link shows), just how high do you think the minimum wage should be?

The problem is inflation.    Wages will NEVER keep up with inflation.     As soon as wage earners in this country wrap their head around that fact and quit voting for people that want to hand out free stuff, maybe something will change for the better.     Until then they'll keep getting free stuff that will keep them enslaved to inflation forever.
