SE MN | The underlying reason that "good" government is impossible is that the world is now too well connected. "Good" government requires saying no when some people are suffering in the hard times make hard men make good times sense. With a fully connected world, there is always a lower cost option ready to import, a cheaper tax jurisdiction to run to, and most importantly, endless news and social media showing how you how somebody else has it better and you shouldn't tolerate any suffering at all.
We all know that the closer government is to the people, the better it works. In a fully connected world, governments that affect your life are on the other side of the world and have no accountability to you at all. In fact, they are accountable to their own people, which makes it their duty to do things that harm you if it helps their people. Look up Dunbar's Number. The problems we have are fundamental to human psychology and cannot be overcome with the current human hardware. We are a tenacious underbrush tree that hit a vein of fertile soil in a sunny spot and we have grown so big and so fast we are starting to break under our own weight. | |
