Madison Co. Virginia | My live trap has solid panels for the two trap doors and the roof. I approach the trap from the end, and pick it up, never giving the skunk a clear view of me. It can see my moving feet through the floor of the trap, but that's never caused an issue. My only time being sprayed by a skunk was when I foolishly approached a caught skunk from the side of the trap where he could easily see me. He sprayed me from inside the trap, and caught me right between the eyes. There were a few extra showers that day, but overall it wasn't too bothersome of an experience.
Skunks and possums get a free pass here. Coons get dispatched if they're specifically causing trouble or are sickly. Groundhogs get eliminated whenever possible.

To catch a skunk
