Iowa | To the west where it was bone dry - deeper was better - but not too deep. They needed to get into consistent moisture but not so deep that when it got cold the seed ran out of gas. 1-1/2 inch probably got you the best stand, but the most variability plant to plant too
To the east there were more issues with deeper causing issues - but residue is also a factor in some cases it allowed us to hold heat in - in other areas it slowed warmup. Wetter = colder this year - so bottoms, endrows, side hills where there was higher moisture were the worst. | |
