Iowa
Kinda bounced around nw/nc iowa the last week. I’m a seed dsm - so I do a lot of looking. East of Hwy 71/north of 20 - definitely had wet feet - along Hwy 3 (east of Hwy 71) were multiple fields with poorer emergence- not enough to tear up. Did walk and count some - planted 34-35 lots of emergence in the 24-31 - a couple with ranges from 12-25- those will get replanted if they don’t get rain today. West of Hwy 60 lots of stuff went into dry dirt - good stands but variable plant height. I think the area just south of me looks really good if they dodged the nasty storms - that’d be kinda lemars/sioux city to storm lake/carrol. Almost all the problems were planted the week of April 20 - so they had 1-4 nice days, then got a cool rain with no gdus for about 10 days. Interestingly enough any of the misses I’ve dug this year were seeds that germed and didn’t know where to go.

Here it’s been one of those weird years where little things make a big difference- planting depth, seed lot vigor, slope of farm, tile, residue- when you’re fighting to get a few gdus for 2 weeks, throw in random frost events. - it’s been a interesting start, but we have good potential.
