99% of the people use them to make and share silly pictures on social media, the other 1% are using them to consolidate profile data of the oblivious 99%, so they can monetize the data for electronic sorting and information channeling, think of it like those Halter cow collars, they can sort off individuals and groups and feed them information to help form their decisions and responses, all while getting constant data collection of their movement and actions which continually feeds back into the algorithms to best determine the next channel of information to feed them to illicit the desired response. The sorting and grouping continues to change and evolve based on the analysis of the most recent behavior. The overall impact to society is so large I don't think it is comprehendible at this point.
