I talked to an IT professional with Utah State University at pretty good length the end of April. Even these guys are like "We don't get it" if that makes you feel any better. How many giga whatevers of memory for person do you need? "Nobody knows." 

It's a little concerning, frankly, that there aren't actually any decent answers.
