Subject: The Permian Basin.. Can the US deliver?

Along our energy theme with Ethanol this week.. this is a good video on the Permian basin.

https://youtu.be/ZzB38gLBMHU?si=AFgBafs6j_77AKJk

Nevermind that the British interviewer refers to a drilling rig as a “fracturing unit”.. it is not.. Drill.. then bring in the frackers.  Anyway, you get the idea of what’s going on right now.

The US exported 6 million bbls per day and in the report.. an interviewee is said.. “we can do more.. maybe 7.. but the rub is natural Gas.. the market went negative.. paying someone to take the natural gas.. (in a lot of places now.. it’s illegal to flare it.. if that matters??)

So there ya go.. natural gas.. the primary source stock to making nitrogen fertilizer is not only free.. but someone right now.. would pay you to take it.. so they can continue to pump Crude Oil from the Permian.

I guess I know where Secretary Rollins can go to increase domestic Nitrogen production…

Now, what’s not said.. the lifespan of Horizontal wells are short.. they may crash by 67% within a few years.. to a decade.. it’s literally a drill baby drill program.

They showed the (salt) water cut.. which increases over time.. per the quality of the well.. from negligible.. to a nuisance.. to the majority.. to too much to deal with.

Also it takes water to drill and frack.. and I don’t believe they can use the salt water from oil recovery.. although that might be a possible solution if realized..??

Theres not a lot of water in dry west Texas.

Yes technology like hydraulic fracturing.. has helped.. and we’re living in a golden age.. however, this too will pass.

Venezula with its heavy crude is another possible solution/problem..

Next issue is when Hormuz.. or Ukraine/Russia.. etc.. gets settled.. energy prices will crash.. probably taking commodities.. Corn/Soybeans/Wheat.. with them.

hmmm..

just something to chew on.

I think fertilizer prices have peaked.. but that will take a couple more posts..
Ill explain as I have time..

Oh btw.. this does not negate the fact that straight gasoline needs octane.. and the cheapest octane is still ethanol.. of which about 30% of todays “gasoline” needs an octane component.. see my.. plethora of ethanol posts below.. for the past couple of decades.. on this subject.

such as..
