There are a lot of people in this area that did receive payments. I do get a little frustrated when I take extra steps to improve my crop. Then have friends of mine tell me I shouldn't waste my time and money on those extra steps because I could make more money by not trying. Sometimes they are correct.
Exactly. Here in SC Nebraska, it seems a lot of farmers consider their non-irrigated acres too much of a bother to screw with. So they farm it mostly like what is under the pivot. In a dry year, yields suck and then they get paid. I still get good yields in a dry year by utilizing no-till. And I don't get the check. Typical government intervention to reward the wrong people for doing the wrong thing. |
