That depends on where you are and whether you need the physical bushels or not.      When you’re in an area of high corn usage and need your corn for feed you might end up buying corn for 50 cents over the board when the area has a really short crop.    The crop insurance check doesn’t go very far in that situation.   

My experience has always been that you’re always better off with a good crop (APH or above)  than you are collecting crop insurance.     A large part of my harvest expense is already sunk whether I use it or not.
