Moingona Iowa
Over the years I try to forward sell fall delivery corn The last couple years hasn't been the
best. If I was younger I would be building storage.
Storage keeps harvesting going instead of hauling to elevator or ethanol plant.
After harvest I have other options. I live 18 miles from the ethanol plant.
To time consuming at harvest to haul to ethanol plant, waiting in line, the plant shut down.
I dislike paying storage and drying down to 14%.
I notice over the years, last year I put corn in the bins that the test weight was 57-61. Air
dried. When hauled to ethanol plant test weight was 61-66.
Back to hauling to local elevator, I sold very little off combine. Paid storage till March.
Then after paying storage I cussed. Only me to blame. Over the years I pick up 40-70+cents
out of bins minimum.
I have done the put and calls, never made much if any.
This year our new crop price is better than last year and I have been more aggressive.
