NW South Dakota | About a decade ago, I was at some winter agronomy event at Bismarck State College. I happened to sit next a farmer who farmed somewhere south of Minot who planted his canola 1.5" deep. Interesting thing though, he planted flax and canola together......5# canola with 5# flax. He said he was frustrated when planting at 1" some canola plants were in dry dirt and other plants were planted in moisture. There were times when canola emergence varied by 3 weeks in the same field. He had been doing the canola/flax thing for several years when I visited with him. No crusting and the flax got killed off easily with the first pass of Liberty. | |
