| So here's my approx. rain totals so far in April: 1st 1.6", 2nd, 2.1", 4th 1.2", 10th 0.2", 12 and 13th 0.6", 15th 0.3", 17th 1.3", 23rd 0.2" and on the 27th 1.0".
Here's my planting and drilling dates in April: 7th corn, 8th and 9th beans, 16 and 17th corn, 19, 20, 21, 22,22, 23rd both c and sb, 24, 25 and 26th both corn and beans. Cheated with beans and did a little drilling in March on the 26 and 30th. Other than a small wet spot, got the beans done unless I need to touch up anywhere.
Beans I no-tilled drilled into c. rye. Corn planted no-till on NH3 strips. A little over 90% done on corn. Most my acres are rolling HEL types. The corn fields done on the 7th and 16 and 17th mostly pattern tiled on 80' spacings, and both look good with stands and emergence. In general corn emerging in around 10 days. March beans emerged mid April, just a day or 2 ahead of the 4-8 drilled beans. C. rye not sprayed till last weekend, so had decent protection against excessive erosion.
Can't get pics to load but will try again later, but so far all looks ok to good. Keys to getting that much done with that much rain imo was having rolling ground that doesn't pond up much, long term no-till and having c. rye soaking up some moisture plus leaving the soil more resilient to compaction. Also just a 6 row planter and a 15' drill with smaller tractors so total weight per axle not excessive, being able to switch from corn to beans pronto with 2 different setups. Often plant corn late morn to dusk then switch to beans late and early. Also although getting too much rain, not near as much as many other areas in the I states and Missouri and some other areas. Terrible to hear about all the excessive storms rolling thru. One could watch storm chasers on the ground 2 to 4 nights a week this time of year it seems.
Hopefully the weather dries up for all who are way too wet. Still plenty of time, and May is the prime time for planting year in year out.
