West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | If ethanol is mandated to be produced from something like say switchgrass...lets build ethanol facilities that produce ethanol from switchgrass.
I'll gladly replace corn acres with switchgrass acres if the NET profit/acre is the same...or more than growing corn we don't need.
AI Overview
Yes, ethanol can be made from switchgrass, typically producing high-energy, cellulosic ethanol rather than starch-based ethanol. It is considered a promising, sustainable source because it is a hardy, non-food crop with high yields, requiring fewer pesticides and nutrients. Switchgrass ethanol yields over 500% more energy than the energy used to produce it, making it more efficient than corn-based ethanol.
