NS Canada | I don't want to jinx myself, But I likely have cows closed up tighter than anyone else on here for calving, and I don't have this issue. It's been yrs since one even got laid on.
The calves do have the option to go into their own area and tend to use it. But there are always some that lay out amongst the cows, esp as the season gets on and it gets more crowded. Fairly big cows too, but not as big as they were when I had char influence cows (back when the last one got laid on)
Have your birthweights come down over the years? Any angus breeding? It doesn't take a lot of BW to make quite a frail difference in a calf, esp a finer boned angus calf.
