If you figure in the extra lifespan of a good fencer I will argue they are the cheaper option. My oldest one is 6 or 7 years old and works like a new one. Most of the time it’s hooked to 2 to 4 miles of fence so it needs to work dependably. A good hot fence trains cattle to leave it alone. A weak fencer trains cattle to test the fence.
