South Dakota
Our county is in process of allowing a power company to build a largest in the country 765 kv transmission line from a coal plant in NE South Dakota to 70 miles south. It would go to Rochester, MN and to the Twin Cities and Wisconsin. The power company doesn’t want to talk about setbacks but wants to talk to each farmer individually. I have the bad luck of having the 4 legged steel structures planned passing diagonally across the section in front of my 4 generation farm. The county below us county commissioners voted for 2000 foot setback from residents. Our county doesn’t want setbacks and thinks it’s not an issue. I understand there are 765 kv lines in Indiana and maybe Georgia. I would like to hear from farmers who live and work under a line like no other. This is still in the planning stage and hope to not have to force a voter referendum on setbacks. How do Farmers who live under these transmission line deal with these lines? GPS issues? Cell issues? Static electrical shocks? Loss of yield?
