NW Missouri
It took a big fancy backflow preventer valve where the rural water comes into the house. My plumber told me "here's a backflow preventer" it was just a regular little ball seat check valve. Then he sat it down and picked up a 12" long monstrosity with both hands and said "and this is a government backflow preventer". It can be hooked onto and tested to make sure it is working right, but no one has ever asked to come do that in 11 years.

Most of the time I keep the two systems separate - well for the livestock, rural water for the house. But if I happen to have nothing in the lots, or the kids want to get out the slip and slide or something, I'll switch the well over to part of the house. Or if we have the lots full of cattle, I'll run rural water to everything. The cold water pex inside the house is blue for lines that are rural water only and white for lines that can be switched back and forth.
