East central Iowa

I have 3 screw drivers that do that.  One is split and you slide part down which wedges the screw driver in a standard screw, the next one is spring loaded and a piece twists to lock it in and the last one is for Phillips, it spreads out when you slide a part down.

As to "modern" electronics" our car left us stranded a few months ago when a part failed.  No warning, didn't start to run bad, just quit.  Also several hundred dollars to repair.  Had years of points  and plugs, the car would start to run bad and for a few dollars and an hour car ran fine again.

Many years ago dad fixed their car with a corset stay from mom's corset, something in the magneto.  It's been too long for me to remember much more than that.

I'd suggest for fun, read "The Grapes of Wrath."
