Following ISOBUS’ introduction in the early 1990s, however, manufacturers often ended up interpreting and implementing ISOBUS differently, and incompatibilities among machines weren’t uncommon. In 2008, two trade organizations and seven international ag equipment manufacturers formed the AEF (Association of Equipment Manufacturers) to iron out such kinks by creating guidelines for integrating ISOBUS into equipment. Reportedly, 200-plus companies now support ISOBUS via the AEF (though not all manufacture ISOBUS-ready products).
